Jeep #4 ESS System Malfunction?

When I got to work yesterday, I pulled into a parking space and, with my foot on the brake, shifted into Park. When I did that, the ESS system engaged and started my car.

That can’t be right.

And it isn’t right. The ESS system is not supposed to work when you are in Park.

This has happened only once, which means good luck reproducing the behavior when it is in the shop. I scheduled a service appointment anyway for next Tuesday.

Message to Fiat/Chrysler:  make the ESS system an option. Don’t make it standard. We know you are trying to improve gas mileage and reduce CO2 emissions in your vehicles, and we approve and support good stewardship of creation. Please find another way to achieve those goals.
