Charity Bowl 50: Betting on Jesus

Now Taking Bets on Charity Bowl 50

In honor of Super Bowl 50, Catholic Charities of Denver and Charlotte are betting on your generosity. The Catholic Charities executive directors from both cities challenged each other to raise $50,000 before the Super Bowl ends February 7. Results will be tallied and published one hour after the Super Bowl ends. The outcome is not determined by the score of the football game.

  • The winning charity’s CEO will hold a victory celebration when charity employees will dump cold sports drinks over him.
  • The losing charity’s CEO will dress in the opposing team’s colors and send a message of congratulations to the other charity.

Place your bet at charitybowl50.org.

Questions of the Day: Are there 1,000 people in the Denver or Charlotte areas — or anywhere — who love those football teams, who will bet $50 on Jesus? Are there 10,000 people who will bet $5?

Scripture of the Day: Philippians 2:1–5

If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but [also] everyone for those of others. Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus.

Quote of the Day

When we attend to the needs of those in want, we give them what is theirs, not ours. More than performing works of mercy, we are paying a debt of justice. — Pope Saint Gregory the Great (b. ca 540; d. 604)
