Change a Life Forever a long time I had it on my heart to sponsor a child. But I was scared. And I was ignorant. So I pushed the feeling away. I thought the things I had were “mine.” I was scared to lose or be without. My mind was lost in a future that was not real, and I was missing out on the abundance and fullness of the present moment. Eventually I learned that All Is Gift:  everything I am and have, that which I perceive as good and positive and welcoming as well as all that I perceive as “bad” or unwelcome (be it chronic pain and illness or a bad deal on a car). And I had to admit, when I looked back at the past, I’ve never been without, even during bouts of unemployment. This life is and everything about it is a free gift of love from a good God.

Question of a Lifetime:  What am I going to do with all this gift?

One day I finally had the courage to say YES! I said YES to Nabuma, a 3-yr-old Ugandan girl. I realized that I had room for her in my life and in my wallet. I looked for the sacrifice of it all, but it was nowhere to be found. A few months later, I said YES to Monica, another 3-yr-old Ugandan girl. They will now be able to go to school, learn to read and write, get a meal, and have access to clean drinking water and basic medical care. And when I think of them, my heart fills with love and joy.

I invite you to say YES! Change someone’s life forever. Visit Caritas for Children and sponsor a child. Do not be afraid to open your heart. Do not be afraid to open your wallet. Do not be afraid to give your time. You and I were made for love.
